Central and North West Queensland Medicare Local Programs
CNWQML is the largest provider of primary health care services in remote parts of central west and north west Queensland, covering 32 communities who can access a broad range of health services, aimed at keeping people well and out of hospital.
The organisation employs approximately 133 staff, the majority of whom are on-ground clinicians such as podiatrists, dietitians, continence nurses and Aboriginal health workers. Twenty-five contracts are administered to health programs such as chronic disease management, Aboriginal health, mental health, allied health and care coordination.
CNWQML provides a number of programs which support local General Practitioners (GPs), including on-the-ground training, data management and assistance to achieve and maintain accreditation. The organisation has also been very successful in forming and supporting partnerships with other health care providers, both government and private, which aim to achieve health outcomes for local communities.
Medicare Locals gratefully acknowledge the financial and other support from the Australian Government Department of Health.
